Super Bowl LIX was a miserable experience for Patrick Mahomes.
But it wasn’t all bad for the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback.
The NFL touted his performance, in which he completed 65.6 percent of his passes for 257 yards with three touchdowns against two interceptions. On the surface and based on the title of two minutes and 41 seconds YouTube clip, “Patrick Mahomes best plays from 3-TD game vs. Eagles,” you’d have thought he played well. But his effort wasn’t as valiant as it was made out to be.

The clip doesn’t start until the Philadelphia Eagles were already up 34-0 to play with just over two minutes to go in the third quarter. It had huge, “Chris Paul hits a huge 3 to cut the lead down to 42” energy.
Seriously, if the NFL was trying to sell Mahomes as a comeback hero, they might’ve been better off not showcasing any of his plays at all.
Oh, and they conveniently skipped over a few key moments.
We’ll make sure to fill you in.
Mahomes had just 33 passing yards at halftime, which is the fifth-fewest ever in the first half of a Super Bowl. Not exactly the legacy he was hoping for on Sunday in New Orleans, as he was marred by multiple first-half interceptions, including a Cooper DeJean pick-six.

Those were the lowlights.
But hey, give credit to the NFL for trying to find the silver lining — perhaps a bit too hard.
If they were hoping for a redemption arc, well, this wasn’t the story they were hoping to tell.
