Pat McAfee and Davante Adams Pat McAfee and Davante Adams

Ian Rapoport knew about Davante Adams before Adam Schefter did, but Pat McAfee may have known about the trade before both of them.

Schefter did something seemingly unheard-of Tuesday morning, crediting Rapoport for being first to report Adams was being dealt to the Jets. Rapoport shared the Adams news on social media three minutes before Schefter did, which is basically a lifetime in the world of news breaking. But more than an hour before Rapoport had the news, McAfee’s googly eyes emoji implied he already knew a deal was imminent.

Aaron Rodgers can’t make McAfee a doctor, a political pundit or journalist, but did he help the sports entertainer become an NFL insider? If McAfee was going to get the Adams news more than an hour before anyone else, it’s reasonable to assume it came from the quarterback responsible for Aaron Rodgers Tuesdays.

McAfee’s vague social media post had people speculating about what was to come. Some fans wondered if it meant Rodgers was going to retire on the heels of leading the Jets to their third straight loss. But nope, it’s quite the opposite. It meant the Jets were slapping one more bandage on their roster in a desperate attempt to keep their Rodgers trade from being declared one of the worst decisions in franchise history.

Shortly after the Adams news was announced, Dianna Russini reported Adams was already in the Jets building for a physical. And if Adams was in the Jets building, Rodgers probably knew about it. And if Rodgers knew about it, that’s probably why McAfee teased the big news before any of the league’s insiders were able to report it.
