When FS1’s Nick Wright speaks up about the Kansas City Chiefs, it’s usually true.
After star tight end Travis Kelce claimed this week he could play three more seasons in the NFL, Wright went on his show First Things First and said the exact opposite. Wright not only doesn’t buy Kelce playing through age 38, he believes Super Bowl LIX on Sunday in New Orleans could be the star’s final game.
“If he cared more about the individual legacy stuff, that in and of itself would be enough to come back one more year,” Wright said.
Kelce is 206 yards and two touchdowns away from passing Jerry Rice for most all time in the NFL postseason. But Wright doesn’t expect that to convince Kelce to come back, especially if the Chiefs win and pull off the three-peat.
“I think there is a very real chance Sunday is Travis’s last game,” Wright said. “I would be very sad, but I think it’s very on the board.”

After 11 seasons and four rings, Travis Kelce is indisputably a legend and a future Hall of Famer. He is also too far away from Tony Gonzalez on the regular season leaderboards to keep playing just to chase the fellow Kansas City pass catcher.
So for Kelce, it likely comes down to the historic achievement of a three-peat, health, and money. Why not go out on top?
Kelce also has a budding Hollywood career, with roles on multiple television shows and a big podcast deal with Amazon. Of course, he is part of a high-profile romance with pop star Taylor Swift that could take up more of his time in the coming years as well.
Wright may not have any inside info, but given that Kelce’s retirement was already on the table, sports media’s biggest Chiefs fan is sure to reignite the conversation after this prediction.
