If there are any NFL fans still still refusing to let Taylor Swift into the fraternity, boy, does Nate Burleson have a message for you.
Earlier this week, the NFL released a “football is back” hype video to tease the season kicking off this week. The usual suspects were in the video; Aaron Rodgers, Jalen Hurts, Josh Allen, Travis Kelce. But then it was also Dolly Parton, Sean Stellato and Taylor Swift. That’s right, Taylor Swift, five times in a 29-second video. Oh the horror.
Apparently, some NFL fans were bothered by Swift’s predictably frequent appearances in the video, bothered enough to garner a response out of Burleson Wednesday on CBS Mornings.

“Get out of your feelings, ‘oh are you upset, you’re a little mad because Taylor Swift is in the promo?’” Burleson asked in a mocking tone. “Who cares! Wipe the drool off your tank top, put some pants on and get out your mama’s basement! I don’t understand what the big deal is! Every other sport can show celebrities at their games, we show Taylor Swift, and you get in your feels. Man, get out of your feelings and watch the games.”
Is this really still a thing? Apparently, people had an issue with NFL MVP Lamar Jackson making one appearance to Swift’s five. But Lamar Jackson fans are already watching every NFL game this season. If the NFL thinks they can garner one more fan and make one more dollar by showing Swift several times in a 29-second video, they’re going to do it.
If there’s an issue to be had with this video it’s the fact that it begins with Aaron Rodgers jogging onto the field at MetLife Stadium with the American flag last year on Sept. 11. That moment is right up there with Endy Chavez’s continuously replayed catch from Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS in terms of cool moments that evoke bad memories.
The New York Mets went on to lose that Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS, just like the Jets went on to lose Aaron Rodgers for the season four plays after he triumphantly ran onto the field with the American flag. But Taylor Swift making five appearances? No big deal.
