After his Cleveland Browns wrapped up their season with a 35-10 to the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday, defensive end Myles Garrett did not mince words on how upsetting the season was.
With the loss, the Browns concluded their season at 3-14. As bad as that record is, it’s not the worst season that Garrett has experienced in Cleveland. In Garrett’s rookie season, 2017, the Browns went 0-16. But while that season was worse, it wasn’t more disappointing.
In his postgame press conference on Saturday, Garrett compared the recently completed season to 2017. He said that 2024 was “Probably a more disappointing season because what we expected out of ourselves. What we had built here before. That’s how I take it.”
Garrett was then asked about comments made by guard Joel Bitonio after Week 17’s game, when he said it was the most frustrating of his 11-year career.
Garrett agreed.
“Yeah,” Garrett said. “I feel pretty similar to how he feels.”

As bad as going winless was for the Browns in 2017, it wasn’t that far below expectations. Cleveland nearly went 0-16 in 2016. The Browns started that year 0-14 before securing their first — and only — win in the season’s penultimate game. That 1-15 season is how Cleveland was in the position to select Garrett first overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. Things were a lot different heading into 2024. The Browns were coming off of an 11-6 season and a postseason trip. Not only did Cleveland fall well short of expectations in 2024 but there’s a lot of potential uncertainty heading into next season, as well.
Losing every game is certainly worse than falling short of expectations. But when put into full perspective, it’s easy to see why Garrett and his teammates would consider the recently concluded season more disappointing.
