It’s been more than six years since Mike Francesa left afternoon drive on WFAN, but the Sports Pope just had another career moment.
In 2015, Dan in Warwick became one of the most memorable callers in WFAN history, when he called Francesa and asked whether the San Francisco Giants and New York Giants ever have a get-together when they’re in the same city.
“Do they ever say, ‘Hi?’” the caller asked. “I don’t know, go out to dinner or something?”
It was the sincerity of the call that really left Francesa stunned. Francesa took his share of prank calls when he was on WFAN, but Dan in Warwick genuinely wanted to know whether the two teams ever have dinner together.
“What is the connection between the San Francisco Giants and the football Giants?” Francesa asked. “Do you think because they’re Giants they’re like brothers or something? That might be the weirdest question I got in a long time.”
Francesa went on to joke about the Giants holding a picnic with relay races, raffles and food for both teams every year in July. 10 years later, Francesa was casually wandering the New York Giants facilities in July, when he opened a door and stumbled on a meeting between the New York and San Francisco Giants.

Matt Chapman and Logan Webb were on hand for the baseball Giants, with Eli Manning and Shaun O’Hara representing the football Giants. And then there was Mike Francesa, just as surprised to learn of the meeting as he was 10 years ago when Dan in Warwick posed the question.
“They really do get together,” Francesa says in the video before shaking his head and leaving the room.
Amazing.
According to Neil Best of Newsday, the idea to spoof the 10-year-old call came from the football Giants’ marketing department. With the San Francisco Giants having an off-day in New York last Thursday before their three-game series with the Mets, everyone was able to make Dan in Warwick’s question a reality.
The good news is, Francesa’s part probably didn’t take long to film. Francesa previously boasted about not needing a lot of takes for his role alongside Adam Sandler in Uncut Gems, adding that he’s a “natural” actor. And it showed here.
