Beast Mode’s transition from bruising running back to Hollywood big timer is reportedly taking another step.
According to a report by Peter White in Deadline, Marshawn Lynch is set to executive produce a documentary titled 12 about the Seattle Seahawks’ near-relocation to Anaheim in the mid-1990s. Lynch’s Beastmode Productions will produce the film alongside Victory Sports Media which has produced other sports flicks like Dream Big: The Michelle Wie Story and The Great Debate with Charles Barkley.
Lynch has become a staple of the film world since retiring from the NFL. Beast Mode has notched acting credits in shows like HBO’s Euphoria, Netflix’s Murderville, and the movie Bottoms.
“I’m hella appreciative to be part of the team working on this film,” Lynch told Deadline. “I’ll be honest, a lot of this story I knew nothing about, but once I heard it and did my own digging, it made me understand and see why there is so much love for the Seahawks and the city of Seattle. The 12’s have always shown me love, hopefully they’ll see and feel thru this doc that it’s mutual.”
The documentary will focus on the group of civic leaders who headed the effort to keep the Seahawks in Seattle. Per Deadline, “It will feature exclusive interviews, never-before-seen archival footage and dramatic re-creations as it chronicles the battle to pass Referendum 48.”
“This project captures the rare intersection of sports, civic identity and grassroots power,” Victory Sports Media founders Jai Khanna and Parag Parikh said. “We’re thrilled — and lucky — to have Marshawn join us. His authentic connection to Seattle and his reach across sports and culture make him an invaluable partner.”
