Behind Matthew Stafford, the Los Angeles Rams have two proven winners.
So, why not just stay the course if Stafford, who the Rams permitted to speak to other teams, decides that there are greener pastures for him beyond Sean McVay and The City of Angeles, that he’s done all he can with his second NFL team — leading them to a Super Bowl LVI victory?
Well, if the Rams move on from Stafford, decide Sam Darnold is out of their price range, and don’t want to part with too much draft capital to make a play for Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders, and aim to stay in-house, they have two options.
Jimmy Garoppolo and Stetson Bennett.
Now, the mere mention of Garoppolo’s name may send shivers down the spines of some fanbases. LeSean McCoy, for one, couldn’t hold back his disdain. The thought was so unbearable that it even led him to storm off The Facility set this Tuesday when Chase Daniel mentioned that the Rams believe they could move forward with Jimmy G.

“I think the Rams, a little bit, are unreasonable in this situation,” said former NFL journeyman QB Chase Daniel. “Like Shady said, just pay the guy. If he wants $50 million, he’s worth $55 million, if we’re being honest… But that just begs the question, like, what are the Rams going to do if they don’t re-sign him, let him walk? Here’s what I’m hearing — and it’s crazy.
“It’s not Aaron Rodgers, not Russell Wilson; the Rams would be OK with Jimmy Garoppolo.”
And just like that, Elvis had left the building.
“Where you going, Shady?” asked fellow cohost Emmanuel Acho.
“He’s trash; I’m outta here,” the former Eagles and Bills running back said.”I’ll be back, bro. I’ll be back.”
Suffice it to say that Chase Daniel doesn’t agree with it. So, don’t shoot the messenger here.
“I have heard that they would be OK with Jimmy Garoppolo,” Daniel added. “And we just had a whole conversation here about Matthew Stafford leading them to the Super Bowl. At one point, you got to say, ‘There’s no way Jimmy G’s even remotely close to Matthew Stafford.'”
You have to excuse McCoy; according to James Jones, he doesn’t like talking about “weak dudes.”
Ouch.
On a more serious note, one that doesn’t involve McCoy storming off the set at the mention of an 11-year NFL veteran, simply swapping Stafford for Jimmy G doesn’t quite align with the Rams’ timeline. With the youngest, most formidable defense in the NFL and a roster full of playmakers — Cooper Kupp aside — the Rams are positioned to win now.
Based on a lot of evidence to the contrary, Jimmy Garoppolo probably isn’t the quarterback to maximize that window.
Which is why McCoy’s reaction, as dramatic as it was, makes a lot more sense when you consider this was once a franchise that shot from the hip and said, “F your draft picks,” for everyone and anyone who would listen.
And if the Rams choose to listen to ‘Shady,’ any quarterback with a pulse not named Garoppolo might have to suffice, perhaps even Matthew Stafford.
