Patrick Mahomes is often considered Josh Allen’s kryptonite, but now we know the Buffalo Bills quarterback’s real weakness is a spider.

Allen met with the media Tuesday after practice, and while answering a question about head coach Joe Brady being on the sideline after years as offensive coordinator up in the booth, he saw a creepy-crawly spider trying to share the table he was sitting at.

“That’s a spider,” Allen said as his mood quickly shifted from cheerful to troubled. “I don’t like that.”

Almost immediately, Allen lost his train of thought and struggled to find words to answer the question. Growing more apprehensive, Allen’s fingers began to tap, and he sat further back in his chair to create more space between himself and the spider.

The spider didn’t seem very large, or even very close to Allen. But for people who don’t like spiders, no spider is ever small enough to satisfy them. And for Allen, sharing a table was too close for comfort, because even as the spider seemed to crawl farther away, the Bills quarterback couldn’t get up from his chair fast enough after answering his last question.

“Good? Alright, thanks, guys,” Allen quickly said as he jumped up from his seat and exited the podium with haste.

This quarterback gets chased and hit by some of the most physically imposing athletes in the world every Sunday during the NFL season. But it’s seeing a spider the size of a penny that truly rattles Allen.
