There are three things that are certain in life – death, taxes, and B roll footage of the Pike Place fish market during sporting events taking place in Seattle.
Seattle is a beautiful place resting on the front porch of Mount Rainier and a bustling city with iconic structures like the Space Needle. But when it comes to sports broadcasts, the only thing you would ever know about the city and the pacific northwest as a whole is that guys throw fish at you in a market.
On a recent episode of This is Football, host Kevin Clark talked with comedian and Seattle sports superfan Joel McHale about the need to freshen things up a little bit.
Seahawks fan Joel McHale and I made a PSA for broadcasts to stop showing the same fish throwing shot during every Seahawks game.
“We could show some train tracks from the light rail system that doesn’t ever seem to be finished.”

“Every single Seahawks game, or every Huskies game, they show the same fish market shot, just a guy throwing fish and I’m begging broadcasts to have a second shot of Seattle, Joel,” Clark said.
“Can we throw a squid, maybe a jellyfish?” McHale replied.
For once, I would love to see a network not show PP. There are a million other cool places in SEA! #saynotocatchingfish

There’s so many options. It’s not really a short drive from Seattle, but the Olympic peninsula is home to the Hoh Rain Forest and is one of the most beautiful and diverse national parks in the country. What about shouting out pure American capitalism given three of the world’s biggest companies (Amazon, Microsoft, Starbucks) all call Seattle home? If all else fails, McHale had another idea.
“We could show some train tracks from, there’s like a light rail system that doesn’t ever seem to be finished. We’ve got a number of condemned bridges,” the comedian added. “Look at the cracks in the west Seattle freeway!”
