The Los Angeles Rams are the team being featured on 2016’s edition of HBO’s always entertaining “Hard Knocks” training camp documentary series.
That means every move and every word being spoken during Rams camp is being monitored, and that means much of it will be broadcast. Many eyes and ears will be paying attention. Well, Rams head coach Jeff Fisher learned that includes parental figures.
Fisher’s mom called him after the premiere episode aired to discuss his R-rated language, as described by ESPN’s Steve Dillbeck:
“I got one of these yesterday, ‘Jeffrey!'” Fisher said Thursday. “This is from Mom. So I said, ‘Sorry, Mom. That’s our world. I’ll try to do better.'”
“When I hear ‘Jeffrey!’ It’s uh-oh. Something went wrong.”
The episode showed how and why the Rams cut Deon Long. Long brought a woman into his dorm at training camp, which is a huge no-no, as Fisher was shown explaining earlier in the episode.
It resulted in a pretty good soundbite from Fisher (but not if you ask his mom), as transcribed by ESPN:
“Little things are important, you follow me? I am not f—ing going 7-9 or 8-8 or 9-7, OK? Or 10-6 for that matter. This team is too talented. I am not going to settle for that, OK? I know what I am doing. We had some 7-9 bulls— this morning. Now, Deon’s gone. That is 7-9 bulls—. We don’t need it.”
So far, Hard Knocks has given us some quality entertainment, and we’ve only been through one episode. This should be a pretty good season of the series.
