There’s been a lot of discussion recently about NFL on Fox insider Jay Glazer, and how he tends to break the stories he breaks during TV appearances on Fox’s pregame show on Sundays rather than on social media services at other hours. And Glazer did just that on Fox’s Super Bowl LIX edition of their Fox NFL Sunday show Sunday, relaying one of the biggest NFL pieces of news out there from their set on a Bourbon Street balcony. That would be the New York Jets telling Aaron Rodgers they don’t want him back. (That actually was the second bit of news he had in one segment, with another bit being a report from an Eagles’ emotional team meeting Saturday night: the Rodgers part starts around 1:05 below.)
Let’s check in with @JayGlazer! β¬οΈ

Glazer also relayed this on X shortly after his TV appearance:
Big scoopage: Aaron Rodgers flew back to New Jersey last week to meet with the Jets about his future with the team, only to be told that the team was moving on from him. If that means that he will be a June 1 designation that allows him to sign with any team in the league onβ¦

Here’s what Glazer wrote there in full:
“Big scoopage: Aaron Rodgers flew back to New Jersey last week to meet with the Jets about his future with the team, only to be told that the team was moving on from him. If that means that he will be a June 1 designation that allows him to sign with any team in the league on March 12 if he decides to continue to play. Given that Aaron made the effort to fly back to discuss his future, all signs point to him continuing to play. It just won’t be for the Jets. @NFLonFOX”
There had previously been some reporting this might be coming, including ESPN’s Adam Schefter noting on that network’s own pregame coverage earlier Sunday that “Many people around the league wouldn’t be surprised” if Rodgers and the Jets parted ways:

And yes, many had theorized a Jets-Rodgers breakup, including CBS’ Jonathan Jones in November. (Which he made sure to let people know with a clip retweet Sunday.) But Glazer’s report here was massive new news on two fronts: one, actually indicating that a split had happened, and two, making it clear it was the Jets’ decision. And while it’s interesting to have that come out during a Super Bowl pregame show (and possibly even overshadow that upcoming Super Bowl a little bit), Glazer has made it very clear that he times his reporting to his appearances on Fox’s pregame show (as they’re his employer) rather than any consideration of team or league interests. (And it certainly won’t hurt that 5.5-hour pregame show to have some ability to discuss the Rodgers situation as well as this matchup.)
Perhaps the really amazing thing is that this news about the Jets, an organization often known for their leaks, stayed under wraps until Glazer could break it on that pregame show live from New Orleans. And that led to a great visual for this report. And while there will undoubtedly be plenty of further notable media news on Rodgers, Glazer got a good bit of it here, and did so at a time that worked well for his TV role.
