Los Angeles Rams head coach Jeff Fisher has two basic rules for his players during training camp: Fisher expects his players to be on time, and to not allow any visitors into the dorms during training camp. Wide receiver Deon Long found out the hard way just how serious Fisher is about those training camp rules.
Long was cut by the Rams on July 31, but it was not until now we were given the real reason why the cut was made. In an episode of Hard Knocks on HBO, insider access is provided of a meeting between Fisher and Long, in which Fisher informed Long he was about to be cut for violating one of Fisher’s rules. Long invited a woman to his room at UC-Irvine, where the recently relocated Rams are set up for training camp. Although Long attempted to explain himself out of the mess, Fisher’s mind was set.
“We’re going to cut you,” Fisher said. “What part did you not understand? Sorry, but this is our world, man. We have rules and we have to abide by them. I thought I made myself really clear.”
Long was picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday. Fortunately for Long, the Eagles do not hold training camp on a college campus anymore, so he is free to do as he pleases at his residence.
