We were enjoying another day of NFL football on Sunday when a tweet from Mike Golic Jr. crossed our feed.
“Greg Olsen and Adam Amin look like a pair of frustrated detectives,” it read.
We did a quick check on the Fox broadcast of the Cowboys-Falcons game and, sure enough, the announcing duo did seem to resemble a pair of flustered gumshoes attempting to crack the case.

It also got us thinking. We watch a lot of Fox NFL broadcasts and, specifically, a lot of games that Olsen works on. And it’s really true that, at some point in each broadcast, he throws off his jacket, rolls up his sleeves, and starts to resemble a grizzled cop who’s no longer interested in doing things within the law.
So we figured we’d take a quick look back through the season to see how well that sense holds up. Surprisingly well, to be honest. Each game even seems to tell a story.
In Week 1, Olsen was paired up with his new partner, Joe Davis, whose more of a straight-laced city cop. He’s a bit wary of his wild card partner whose screwball antics could get them hauled in front of the chief.
They were back on the case in Week 2 and it seemed like Davis was beginning to warm up to Olsen’s way of doing things, even if they weren’t exactly by the book.
By Week 3, Davis started to have concerns about his powder keg of a partner, who wanted answers and wasn’t afraid to bend the rules to get them.
And by Week 4, Olsen’s five o’clock shadow told the story of a man whose obsession with cleaning up the streets was taking its toll.
In week 5, Davis went on assignment (literally, to cover baseball) and Olsen was partnered up with one of those young number-crunchers. Jason Benetti didn’t see eye-to-eye with Olsen’s brute force mentality.
Week 6, Olsen was reassigned to work alongside Adam Amin and you could say it was the beginning of a beautiful partnership. The cartels were on notice.
Still, a detective sees things that can’t be unseen. And by Week 7, Olsen’s thousand-yard stare said more than words ever could.
You’ve heard of “good cop, bad cop?” Trust us, you don’t want to find out which one is the “bad cop.” In Week 8, it was all business as Olsen and Amin delivered swift justice.
All of this brings us to Week 9, where we find Olsen unable to comprehend the story he’s being told. The details don’t match what you said yesterday. Was Mendoza at the drop-off or not? Olsen’s starting to think you’re lying. And lying to him would be a very bad idea…
Tune in next week for the next installment of Detective Greg Olsen: Broadcasting for Justice.
