Greg Olsen might want to reassume Tom Brady’s lead analyst chair, but that doesn’t mean he’s rooting against his NFL on Fox colleague.
Two years ago, it was Olsen who was sitting next to Kevin Burkhardt to call the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl. Now, Olsen will get to watch the game like the rest of us, while Brady gets to call the rematch for Fox.
In recent days, weeks and months, Olsen has maintained his desire to get back to calling championship games and Super Bowls. Last week he once again shared frustration in being demoted from the top booth and said he listens to Brady on the broadcast with an ear on how he would be calling it differently.
But don’t let that candor fool you into believing he’s rooting against Tom Brady. Greg Olsen joined NFL Network’s Good Morning Football on Thursday and insisted it’s still one big happy family over at Fox.

“I know my comments last week kind of took on a crazy storm,” Olsen admitted. “I actually talked to Tom. I’ve talked to Tom regularly throughout the season. We’ve gotten to know each other really well, I have a ton of respect for him, which goes without saying as a player. But I’ve really enjoyed getting to know him as a guy since he joined Fox.
“This whole narrative of like, ‘I hate watching him call games’ and all that is not true. So here I am, on national TV, setting the record…I like Tom…I try to help him, I answer questions to the best I can. I want to see him do well, I want to see him and Kevin (Burkhardt) and EA (Erin Andrews) and Tom Rinaldi have a great broadcast, I don’t have any personal animosity.”
It’s certainly interesting to hear this clarification days before Fox hosts Super Bowl LIX. Surely, the network would like all of its employees to be promoting the broadcast and their $375 million investment in Brady. This whole narrative, however, was created by Olsen’s honesty, which we appreciate. But this wasn’t just a fostered rumor based off assumptions.
Two things can be true. Greg Olsen can want his old gig back while still not having it out for Tom Brady. By most accounts, Olsen crushed it during his two seasons as the lead analyst for Fox. Getting bumped for Brady is an unfortunate break, but it’s also one Olsen signed up for.
