The Kansas City Chiefs trailed the Philadelphia Eagles 24-0 at halftime of Super Bowl LIX, and that sparked plenty of sports media reactions. One of those came from 85-year-old ESPN college basketball commentator Dick Vitale.
On X, Vitale compared the Chiefs’ chances of puling off the comeback to the odds of him being “SEXIEST man in television”:
Unbelievable baby as the @Chiefs chance of being the only team ever to win 3 consecutive Super Bowls is in major trouble . @Eagles lead at half 24-0 – wow I think I have a better chance of being the SEXIEST man in television baby!
— Dick Vitale (@DickieV) February 10, 2025
Vitale’s long been known for weighing in on basketball and beyond (including concerts) on social media and broadcasts, so it’s not particularly surprising to see him discuss the Super Bowl. But his analogy here was quite the hilarious one.
Vitale’s in the minds of many this weekend following his first game back on ESPN in almost two years (due to a cancer battle and other vocal chord issues) Saturday. And he’s clearly still beloved by many. So, if there ever was a chance that he could earn some level of “SEXIEST man in television” award, this might be the time (and that maybe left a little hope open for the Chiefs).
But the self-awareness from Vitale here was quite funny. And while there have been many good takes on Kansas City’s struggles in this Super Bowl, Vitale provided one of the funniest reactions.
