Wednesday, the Washington Commanders suspended VP of content Rael Enteen after a secretly recorded video went public showing him making homophobic comments and derogatory statements about NFL fans, Roger Goodell, and others.
The video was recorded by a woman working for O’Keefe Media Group who went on several dates with Enteen after matching on Hinge. During their dates, the unknown woman recorded the executive while peppering him with questions about the Commanders, their players, and the NFL.
Enteen was recorded allegedly saying that NFL players are homophobic, league fans are alcoholic mouth-breathers, that the league’s social justice initiatives are insincere, that Goodell is a puppet and Jerry Jones actually runs the league.
Following the release of the video, the Commanders suspended Enteen.
“The language used in the video runs counter to our values at the Commanders organization. We have suspended the employee pending an internal investigation and will reserve further comment at this time,” a Commanders spokesperson said in a statement.
In the video, the woman asked very pointed questions, such as the “breakdown” of the Washington roster.
“Over 50 percent of our roster is either white religious — ‘and God says f–k the gays’ — another big chunk is very low-income African-American that comes from a community that is inherently very homophobic,” Enteen said.
When asked about how smart NFL players are, he notes that “there’s some that are like dumb as all hell.”
Enteen also shared a low opinion of fans who show up for Commanders games.
“Most of the fans, I would say, are high-school-educated alcoholics,” he said. “There’s fights in the stands all the time.”
When the woman asked if these fans were “like lower class people,” Enteen responded by saying “I hate to use that term. I would just say mouth-breathers.”
On NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, Enteen didn’t mince words over how powerful he believes he actually is.
“Oh yeah, he’s a puppet,” said Enteen. “A $50 million puppet.”
He added that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones “really runs the NFL” and “hates gay people and Black people.”
When asked about how the NFL is “very much into social justice,” Enteen said that the league’s efforts are “performative.”
“It’s not done out of the goodness of their heart and morality,” he said. “It’s done because George Floyd changed the game… I mean that the social justice efforts are a performance for the sake of public perception and not because they want to actually push progress.”
When the woman tries to push Enteen to admit that the social justice efforts are meant to appease liberals, he pushes back by saying “I think it’s to make as much money as possible.”
According to his LinkedIn profile, Enteen has worked for the Commanders since 2020 and previously worked for the New York Jets and the XFL.
O’Keefe Media Group was founded in 2023 by James O’Keefe, a right-wing activist who rose to fame through Project Veritas, which used deceptively edited videos and dubious information-gathering techniques targeted at mainstream media organizations and progressive groups. O’Keefe was fired from the organization in 2023 over allegations of misuse of donor money.
