Caitlin Clark is a Kansas City Chiefs fan and now everyone, including Christopher “Mad Dog” Russo, knows it.
Clark joined Taylor Swift in a luxury suit at the Chiefs’ Divisional Round playoff game against the Houston Texans this past weekend. And seeing two forces of that magnitude in one room was too much for Russo to handle, with the radio Hall-of-Famer going off on Clark for being a Chiefs fan. Because according to Russo, there’s no way Clark, who grew up in Des Moines, Iowa where the Chiefs are the closest NFL franchise, could actually be a Chiefs fan.
After ranting about Clark’s fandom on his Monday SiriusXM Radio show, Russo was at it again Tuesday morning on The Dan Patrick Show, seemingly expecting Patrick to co-sign his angst.
“I’m Chief’d out, Dan. I’m Chief’d out. And now all of a sudden Caitlin Clark is a Chiefs fan?” Russo asked. “Let me guess this straight, we watched Caitlin, a wonderful athlete…I never saw her once wear a Chiefs jersey, wear a Chiefs hat, have her father wear the Chiefs…and now all of a sudden, she’s a huge Chiefs fan? Oh, come on!”
Patrick quickly caught Russo by surprise by informing him, “Caitlin Clark announced her fandom with the Chiefs years ago.”
“I didn’t know that,” Russo said with skepticism. “Did she? She’s a Chiefs fan. She knows about Super Bowl I…does she know about Miami-Kansas City double overtime 27-24 for one of the most famous games in the history of the National Football League?”
The idea of Clark’s Chiefs fandom being defined by Russo needing a picture of her father in a Chiefs shirt or hat is wild. Russo might not want to hear it, but the league probably cares more about the young fans watching NFL Slimetime on Nickelodeon than it does the older fan who remembers Dolphins-Chiefs on Christmas Day in 1971.
A few minutes later, Patrick alerted Russo to a photo of Clark, “looks like she’s about eight years old, she’s with her cousins and she has her Chiefs jersey on.” It was presumably this photo that the Chiefs shared last year of a young Caitlin Clark.

“Would you like to issue an apology?” Patrick asked.
“What is she Hank Stram now?” Russo asked with a chuckle. “I guess. I guess. I shouldn’t be picking on Caitlin Clark. I’m Chief’d out.”
Of course Russo is Chief’d out. Because he’s not a Chiefs fan! You know who isn’t Chief’d out? Lifelong Chiefs fans like Caitlin Clark.
