It’s safe to say, Friday’s YouTube broadcast of the Los Angeles Chargers’ win over the Kansas City Chiefs wasn’t for everyone.
That was pretty clear. Between the endless parade of YouTubers that no one over the age of 25 had ever heard of and the gimmicky segments that came with them, YouTube’s maiden voyage into NFL broadcasting was set out to accomplish one thing: impress younger viewers.
As one might expect, that came at the cost of disenfranchising the core audience which is, well, people who have no idea who the heck Deestroying is. Count Chris Long among that core audience.
The former defensive end turned host of the Green Light with Chris Long podcast had some sharp words for the broadcast on the most recent episode of his show.

“I watched the YouTube broadcast of the game in Sao Paulo, and I felt immediately like somebody who was being ushered to, like, an early grave,” Long began. “Like, it just felt like, ‘Time to die, boomer. You don’t know who Deestroying is? Time to die. You don’t want to see MrBeast’s, like, giant f*cking pearly white smile as he Squid Games 2 NFL fans through a f*cking goal post? No problem. Just go to bed, you’re old anyways.’
“The whole thing to me, it’s jarring. And I understand what old people feel like when programming changes because, like, I just don’t get it. But I’m old. And nobody wants to be the guy that’s like, is sh*tting on, like, streamers … like, I don’t want to sh*t on young people. But I’m like, ‘Man, I really felt it the other night.’ I’m not going to throw a fit. I’m still going to watch the game.”
Luckily for Long, that’s the only game YouTube will be in charge for this season. Thankfully, we can all slink back into the comfortable ramblings of Terry Bradshaw once again, without interruption from MrBeast.
