On Tuesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news of the New York Jets trading for star wide receiver Davante Adams to the general public. However, the Inside The NFL cast knew about the deal the night before Schefter had broken the news thanks to former NFL wideout Chad Johnson.

Johnson, who serves as the co-host of the Nightcap podcast alongside Shannon Sharpe, also stars on Inside The NFL on The CW.

In a preview of Wednesday’s new episode of Inside The NFL posted by NFL Films on X, Johnson’s co-host Ryan Clark shared a group text message from Johnson sent on Monday night detailing that the deal was done and that Adams was on a flight to New York.

“There is another team that picked up a great player in the New York Jets,” said Clark. “And I’m gonna be honest with y’all, at around 5:30 on Monday night, I already knew. And so did Ocho, he predicted it. So here we have a text. This is the Inside The NFL chat. Now, you can tell that this is real because look at Chris’s Bitmoji. It’s some dude that’s in Montana with a cowboy hat on. And that is Chris (Long) guys. You see it right here. ‘Davante Adams to the Jets. I beat Schefter and I’m sure they’ll announce it tomorrow he’s flying to NY tonight.’ So Ocho predicto, how did you know?”

“Thank you, I appreciate it,” replied Johnson. “Listen, I know everything. The writing was on the wall. I have sources. Those sources I will not disclose here on this platform because they won’t tell me anything else. I have some other things that I’m going to predict later on, on other moves that are going to be made. Probably sometime in the next 48 hours. Other than that, just know I know my stuff.”

As a former star wide receiver in the NFL, it’s perhaps not too much of a shock that Johnson has sources around the NFL that could have made him aware of this knowledge. It wouldn’t even be too surprising if the news came from Adams directly.

Maybe don’t expect Johnson to be a full-time NFL insider anytime in the near future. But considering his accuracy here, the future predictions around the NFL he alluded to may be worth taking notice of.
