The Green Bay Packers lost their season opener to the Minnesota Vikings, but worse than that, they lost Boston sports radio host Mike Felger as a fan.

Felger has been a Boston sports media staple for decades, hosting afternoon drive on 98.5 The Sports Hub with Tony Massarotti since 2009, but the Milwaukee native has stayed true to his Wisconsin roots. Until Sunday, however, when head coach Matt LaFleur and the Packers were outscored by the Minnesota Vikings 22-0 in the fourth quarter.

“I’m not really going to watch them this year,” Felger insisted after the loss to Minnesota. “I’m done. I’m walking away from the Packers. Watching that team since I was a little boy, every week, ride or die, good times or bad, I swear to God, I’m gonna check out this year. I swear to God. I have better things to do with my time.”

Those better things include golfing or watching other games, because Felger isn’t checking out on the NFL altogether, just the Packers.

“What’s the point of putting emotional energy behind a team that is that poorly coached, and a coach who has no effing clue what to do inside of a game? None. No feel for the game,” Felger continued before calling LaFleur an “asshat” and “complete clown.”

“I blame the entire state of Wisconsin. You people are too stupid to know it; you just gave these guys a contract extension,” Felger ranted. “And obviously the dummies in Wisconsin, who aren’t discerning enough or critical enough, just let it happen. You let it happen; it is their fault; it is the people of Wisconsin’s fault. If this guy (LaFleur) was a coach here (in New England), he’d never make it. But not in Green Bay, not Happy Land. Nope, nope, nope. You’re just happy to have the team. You’re just happy to go there and wear your cheeseheads.”

Going from Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love, with two Super Bowls, 15 division titles, and 22 playoff appearances over the last 30 years, plenty of other NFL fanbases would love to be rooting for the Packers. Maybe they can take Felger’s spot at least until the Packers get a convincing win, which will probably be enough to lure Felger back off the golf course.
