For Bomani Jones, Shedeur Sanders’ recent speeding citation for driving 101 mph in a 60 mph zone is not something that those around the Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback should dismiss.
On The Right Time with Bomani Jones, Jones acknowledged that doing 70 in a 55 is something “that can happen to the best of us.” But he compared the speeding that Sanders was doing to what he did in his younger days, adding that thinking about that now brings somber thoughts.
“You going 101 in a 65, we’re talking about something entirely different,” Jones said. “This is what I would say if I knew him. I don’t have that many things that I look back on from when I was younger and just be like, ‘Man, you was trippin’.’ I don’t have that many of ’em. But I used to drive really fast. I can think about some of those times and I get a little bit emotional because it was so stupid how much I was putting my actual life in danger.”

Jones added that this is something that Sanders’ father, Deion Sanders, and other people close to him should take seriously, bringing up former Las Vegas Raiders receiver Henry Ruggs, who remains in prison for driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter, stemming from a 2021 crash that killed another driver.
“If I were Deion, or anybody else that’s around him, my thing wouldn’t have been, ‘Hey, man. Everybody speeds every now and then. It ain’t that big a deal.’ Nah, brother, it’s a big deal,” Jones said. “It’s not a big deal that requires me to demoralize or to wag my finger at you. It’s to let you know, that Henry Ruggs thing, that could be you, man.”
