During Sunday’s game between the Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos, a conversation about whether a call would be upheld turned into a discussion about one of the most popular music acts of all time.
Trailing 23-7 in the fourth quarter, Denver’s Bo Nix threw a touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton. While Sutton clearly caught the pass, there was some dispute about whether he remained in bounds. So, the play went under review. During the review, “Let It Be” by The Beatles was played at Empower Field at Mile High, a standard choice when a good play for the home team is under review.
“Shoutout to the crew in Denver, they’re playing ‘Let It Be’ throughout the stadium. Nicely done,” said Andrew Catalon, calling the game for CBS.
“I wasn’t familiar with that,” analyst Jason McCourty said.
“Come on,” a laughing Catalon replied.
At that point, referee Tra Blake announced to the crowd that the call would stand.
“Alright,” analyst Tiki Barber said. “Tra Blake influenced by the Beatles.”
Andrew Catalon: Shoutout to the crew in Denver, they’re playing “Let it Be” throughout the stadium.
Jason McCourty: I wasn’t familiar with that.
Catalon: How do you not know the Beatles?
McCourty: I know who they are. When their work comes on, it’s not familiar to my ear. pic.twitter.com/QSEXfxvLah

Before the game continued, Catalon had to revisit the previous conversation.
“Jason, how do you not know the Beatles?” Catalon asked.
“I know who they are,” McCourty said. But when their work comes on, it’s not familiar to my ear. I’ll say that.”
“Come on,” Catalon said. “That’s unbelievable.”
There will be an answer.
