In case anyone out there somehow hasn’t heard, the NFL is very, very excited about celebrating its 100th season, and that throwback approach even translated to the NBC broadcast booth for Thursday’s NFL Kickoff game between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears. Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth appeared in old-school hats with “Press” tucked into the bands:
Michaels says “I would say you look marvelous, but that’s probably a bit of an embellishment.” Collinsworth responds “I just keep thinking, would John Madden wear this?” Michaels says “500-1,” Collinsworth says “Yeah, not going to,” and Michaels says “All right, enough frivolity right now, we’ve got a heck of a game coming up tonight.”
While it wasn’t the patented Collinsworth Slide, this was still an interesting broadcast intro, and another effort to show off the NFL’s history.
