The New York Giants appear to be destined for another disappointing season, falling to a 1-3 on the year after their 20-15 loss on Thursday Night Football to the Dallas Cowboys. And according to Adam Schein of CBS Sports Network, Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is largely to blame.

This offseason, viewers who tuned into the inaugural edition of HBO’s Hard Knocks Offseason saw the Giants front office, specifically general manager Joe Schoen, battling with the idea of potentially drafting a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Ultimately, the Giants of course decided to stay at No. 6 overall and select LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers, who has looked great thus far throughout his rookie season.

But still, a wide receiver can only have so much of an impact compared to a quarterback. And naturally, the team’s struggles despite Nabers’ success is bound to bring up the debate as to whether the Giants potentially should have pushed harder to trade up for a quarterback.

Adam Schein offered his thoughts on the matter, calling out Daniel Jones while also questioning Joe Schoen’s decision to sign Daniel Jones to a pricey extension.

“Why is Daniel Jones still on the Giants?” Schein bluntly asked. “Seriously, and I didn’t like the draft pick. Dave Gettleman is a special blend of ignorant and arrogant. Then the new regime came in and he was the quarterback. Daniel Jones earned a return after his first year where he led the Giants to the playoffs and he won a playoff road game in Minnesota.

“But the contract? 40 mil a season, that’s awful by Joe Schoen and obviously Brian Daboll. Brian Daboll is on a hot seat. Fair or unfair. And he’s a quarterbacked whisperer, an offensive guru. He doesn’t have a guy. How many times can Daniel Jones have a wide-open receiver and there is no zip on the fastball? No pop, not sizzle. He looks like Phil Niekro meets Jamie Moyer throwing the football. And that’s not good. He’s never been a guy and he’s driving Brian Daboll crazy.”

For anyone familiar with baseball, a comparison to Phil Niekro or Jamie Moyer isn’t exactly a compliment when it comes to throwing with velocity…

Jones hasn’t had a disastrous season by any means. Malik Nabers has actually helped tremendously when it comes to Jones having a reliable option to throw to.

But regardless, Jones’ play hasn’t been good enough for the Giants to consistently win games. And you have to wonder whether the organization has a cap on their success with Jones at the helm.
