Aaron Rodgers might not be a great quarterback anymore, but he’s still great at shifting blame to remind everyone when something isn’t his fault.

Rodgers played one of his best games of the season Sunday afternoon against the Miami Dolphins, throwing for more than 300 yards for the first time since 2021. But remaining consistent, the Jets failed to get a win, losing 32-26 in overtime. The Jets are now 0-7 in games decided by six points or less this season, they fell to 3-10 on the year and were officially eliminated from playoff contention Sunday afternoon.

After the loss, Newsday’s Tom Rock asked Rodgers about the Jets extending their NFL-worst playoff drought to 14 seasons, but the polarizing quarterback didn’t seem interested in the question.

“What’s the question?” Rodgers asked awkwardly after the reporter noted it’s almost hard for a franchise to go 14 years without making the playoffs once.

Rock followed up by asking Rodgers to reflect on now being part of the drought, but again, the polarizing quarterback didn’t seem interested in the question.

“I mean, I’ve been here, I’ve started one year, so, I’m a part of it for one year,” Rodgers said with frustration. “It’s disappointing.”

Rodgers has been part of it for two years. And they were arguably the two most disappointing years in franchise history. This wasn’t Josh McCown handwaving the playoff drought after one season as the Jets starting quarterback. Rodgers brought much higher expectations with him to the Jets, and part of that was because of his own willingness to address the franchise’s history when they traded for him.

It was Rodgers who referenced Joe Namath’s guarantee during his introductory press conference with the Jets in 2023. It was Rodgers who “noticed” their “Super Bowl III trophy is looking a little lonely.” And now it’s Rodgers who doesn’t want to acknowledge his role in extending the Jets playoff drought is much bigger than that of a player who was part of it for just one year.
