Aaron Rodgers calls dealing with Jets media a ‘great experience’

It might not seem like there’s anything “great” about the 2024 New York Jets, but Aaron Rodgers has been able to find a few silver linings.

And who would have guessed one of those silver linings would be the New York media. Rodgers doesn’t like the way the Jets are covered, and he definitely doesn’t appreciate the leaks that seem to routinely trickle out of the building, but as far as his own experience with the beat reporters? It’s been “great.”

Rodgers conducted his weekly meeting with reporters Wednesday afternoon ahead of what will likely be his final game with the Jets and while he didn’t go so far as to tell the beat reporters ‘I think I’ll miss you most of all,’ he was complimentary of their time spent together.

“There’s gonna be change here. And if I’m a part of the change, then I just want to make sure everybody knows I have nothing but gratitude for my time here and I enjoyed speaking with you all every single week and the questions,” Rodgers said to garner a chuckle from the group of Jets reporters in front of him. “No, I do appreciate it. I really do. It’s been a great experience all around.”

There was much discussion about ‘Rodgers vs the big bad New York media’ when the Jets acquired the quarterback from Green Bay back in 2023. And the tumultuous relationship didn’t disappoint, with Rodgers regularly countering reports and calling out headlines. But his gripes were rarely about the questions he was being asked because those questions were usually fair and topical. His issues were usually about the ensuing coverage that his answers led to.

A 20-year NFL veteran who lives in the spotlight and has been as careful and calculated with the media as Rodgers has throughout his career was never going to struggle dealing with New York reporters. But it was the incessant coverage around his answers and around the organization that was an adjustment he still may not have gotten used to.
