Just over two weeks after getting laid off from his job covering the Chicago Bears for the Chicago Tribune, Sean Hammond is back on the beat.
After getting hired to cover the Bears for the Tribune in March, Hammond announced in July that his position, which he called a “dream job,”
had been cut. But on Monday, there was more news, as Hammond shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he was returning.
“I’m happy to announce that I’m back on the Bears beat for the Chicago Tribune beginning today,” Hammond said. “I appreciate each and every person who reached out over the last two weeks. I’m ready to get back to work and pick up right where I left off.”

“That 24-24 tie at Soldier Field yesterday was the last game that I will cover for the Chicago Tribune, on the Bears beat,” he said during the Take the North podcast with Mark Grote. “This will be my last week at the Chicago Tribune after 12 years at the Chicago Tribune. It is a bittersweet moment for me. I cannot share what’s next. You know, and others around me know, I will not be going far, and that will not do anything to Take the North or anything that goes into my coverage of the Bears.”
