Celebrity investors in English soccer teams is nothing new. But Fox Sports host Colin Cowherd may be one of the most unlikely of the bunch.
According to a report from Front Office Sports, Cowherd has bought a minority stake in English Premier League club Ipswich Town. Cowherd told the outlet that he previously tried to buy a stake in a Major League Soccer club but was unsuccessful. The size of the stake was not disclosed.
Ipswich Town has bounced between the Premier League and the Championship in recent seasons. They won back-to-back promotions to reach the top flight of English soccer for the first time since the 2001-2002 season in 2024. However, they were sent right back down to the second tier after finishing 19th. Thankfully for the Tractor Boys and their fans, their stay was short-lived as they achieved immediate promotion once again with a second-placed finish in the Championship last year.
Cowherd joins Ipswich’s most famous supporter as a minority owner, pop singer Ed Sheeran.
While Colin Cowherd has made his name as a radio host, he has also expanded his business empire. His podcast network at The Volume has grown immensely over the past several years. While he has thought about a potential sale that could recoup nine figures, he is deciding to hold on to the network for now.
It will be interesting to see if Ipswich Town and the English Premier League become a regular topic on Cowherd’s weekday show on FS1. They currently sit in the top half of the table after a positive start to the season, hoping to maintain their Premier League status. At the very least, perhaps we can learn from Colin Cowherd who the EPL’s “sex symbol” is after his interesting interview with Sophie Cunningham.
