Will Ferrell

Can Will Ferrell pull off a role-playing golf legend?

The famous actor will get the chance in a new Netflix comedy series, Golf.

Netflix announced that Ferrell will have the lead role in the 10-episode series. He will also co-create the series with Ramy Youssef, who will have an unspecified acting role, and Josh Rabinowitz.

No release date was specified for the series.

This is just Netflix’s latest sports-related programming move. In a blockbuster deal, the streaming service announced Wednesday it will host NFL Christmas Day games for the next three seasons. Netflix already scored a coup by landing WWE Raw starting in 2025.

Netflix’s recent Tom Brady roast entertained some and irritated others, but definitely got people talking.

Netflix has found success with docuseries and all-access shows such as Quarterback, Formula 1: Drive to Survive, NASCAR: Full Speed, and the golf series Full Swing. Other docuseries have been announced in recent weeks, including Receiver (think Quarterback, only with receivers) and F1 Academy, along with a scripted series on racing legend Ayrton Senna.

So Ferrell’s new series fits right in with Netflix’s new emphasis on sports. And no one has to worry about him pulling off the pro golfer act. Ferrell is one of the most versatile actors, having played a TV anchorman, a NASCAR driver, a pro basketball player/team owner, and an elf in the 2003 classic Elf.
