Netflix has experienced a ton of success in recent years through sports docuseries such as Formula 1: Drive to Survive and Full Swing. The production company responsible for those two projects, Box to Box Films, will be spawning another sports docuseries on the world of sprinting.

The project has been in the works for a little under a year, as it was previously announced by the streaming platform last August. On Friday, Netflix issued a press release on the project, which gives a bit more info about what the series will be about and when it will be released.

Here is a brief synopsis from the press release that offers some insight into the project, which will feature the likes of Sha’Carri Richardson, Noah Lyles, and Shericka Jackson.

Following athletes from all over the world, this series delves deep into the psyches of those elite competitors who train to be the fastest person on the planet. We take an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the high stakes, and mental toughness of the sprinters who devote their entire lives to crossing the finish line in record time, where their professional futures are decided in just fractions of a second. Season 1 will explore the top sprinters on the road and throughout the 2023 World Championships featuring Sha’Carri Richardson, Noah Lyles and Shericka Jackson among many others.”

The project will premiere on Netflix in a little under a month officially on July 2nd, which is particularly interesting because the 2024 Paris Olympic Games is of course set to kick off later that month. That alone should generate some interest in the docuseries.

Outside of the Olympic Games,  sprinting obviously doesn’t have the sort of mainstream appeal that the PGA Tour or even Formula 1 has that helped make Drive to Survive and Full Swing successful ventures thus far for Box to Box Films.

But there should certainly be some short-term appeal here amongst sports fans interested in learning more about the sport. As for the long-term potential of the docuseries, that may depend on how well received the docuseries gets initially.
