It’s officially happening.
After Adam Sandler revealed details about a Happy Gilmore sequel and potential roles for Dan Patrick and Drew Carey, Netflix announced Wednesday that the project is a go. Sandler will be reprising his role in the new movie coming to the famed streaming platform.

While details aren’t readily available, and it’s unclear when the new movie will premiere, Wednesday’s news confirmed that actor Christopher McDonald wasn’t pulling anyone’s leg when he spilled the beans about a forthcoming Happy Gilmore sequel.
“We’re working on it, me and (Tim) Herlihy are diligently trying to make a good reason for everyone to watch and have a good time. Netflix is excited about it,” Sandler told Dan Patrick last month. “We’ve got some good ideas.”
Sandler appreciated fans’ interest in the cast and wanted to honor all the stars of the first film who have passed.
“I would love Drew Carey to be in this movie out of respect to Bob,” Sandler said. “When we were writing stuff, Bob was alive. When we were writing stuff, Carl Weathers was alive. When we were writing stuff, Joe Flaherty was alive. It sucks, we love those guys. They were such a big part of the movie and just great people. But we’re going to get them involved somehow. They’ll be involved.”
Even though the cat was out of the bag early, this sequel has already garnered much excitement.
We can expect Sandler to return as Happy Gilmore, perhaps even channeling his inner Chubbs (Carl Weathers) by becoming an instructor himself. However, it’s also tempting to believe that neither Sandler nor Netflix could resist revisiting the highly anticipated rematch between Gilmore and his nemesis, Shooter McGavin.
Either way, this highly-anticipated sequel could take many exciting paths.
