Things aren’t going so well for Bo Wallace. The former Ole Miss quarterback wasn’t chosen in the 2015 NFL draft and didn’t earn a contract following his tryout with the Kansas City Chiefs, but has wound up with some coaching jobs after that; he started as an assistant at the Tennessee high school where his brother played in 2016, then was hired as the quarterbacks coach at East Mississippi Community College (the place featured in Netflix’s Last Chance U, which will have its second season premiere in July) in January. However, that job may be in some jeopardy following his arrest for driving under the influence over the weekend. Antonio Morales and Will Sammon of the Jackson Clarion-Ledger have more:
East Mississippi Community College quarterbacks coach and former Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace was arrested and charged with a DUI Saturday night.
…The arrest took place at 11:06 p.m. in Clay County and was made by the West Point police department. Wallace was released at 1:16 a.m. Sunday after he was bonded out. Bond was set at $813.50, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s office.
The Clay County Sheriff’s office said it wouldn’t be able to provide additional information until Monday morning.
According to EMCC coach Buddy Stephens, Wallace took prescription medication during the day, fell asleep at the wheel while driving after working a youth camp, got into a wreck and was arrested after the accident.
Stephens said he would continue to gather information on the matter.
Wallace played at EMCC in 2011 after transferring from Arkansas State, and set junior college records for passing touchdowns and total offense there. His 4,604 yards and 53 touchdowns paved the way for his move to Ole Miss and success there, and it made sense for EMCC to bring in someone with Wallace’s name, accomplishments and history with the school. But this certainly isn’t a good moment for him. (And what’s with the lack of shirt?)
It’s unlikely Wallace will feature much in season two of Last Chance U. We don’t yet know exactly when it was shot, but the first season focused on the 2015 football season, so it seems likely the second one focused on 2016, and Wallace only came to the school this January. (Similarly, academic advisor Brittany Wagner may well feature in S2 despite leaving the school in February.) But if he does stick around at EMCC despite this charge and if more seasons are ordered, he could be an interesting subject to examine. There are a lot of ifs in there, though.
