The Philadelphia Eagles organization has naturally received countless congratulatory messages on social media from fans and media members alike after their victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday in Super Bowl LIX. NBC followed suit but did so in a way that was seen as mostly a plug for their streaming service, Peacock.
Philadelphia’s first regular season game was held in Sao Paolo, Brazil. It was also a Peacock exclusive, the first of the league’s International Games series for the year against the Green Bay Packers.
For those who forgot that the Eagles took part in the Peacock exclusive broadcast in Week 1, NBC made it a point to remind everyone in a post on X that highlighted that fact.
“Congratulations to the Philadelphia Eagles on their second Super Bowl victory and the first-ever NFL Championship win by a team which began the season with a game available nationally exclusively on a streaming service,” NBC Sports PR wrote in a statement on X.

This fact from NBC is incredibly cherry-picked because streaming-exclusive games are a relatively new concept for networks. After all, NBC has only been hosting games exclusively on its streaming platform for the past two seasons.
Naturally, many media members responded to NBC’s post on X by pointing out how they were essentially making the Eagles win all about themselves.
“Love this flex,” Former Barstool personality Jake Marsh ironically wrote on X. “Hang the banner. Where were you when a team who began the season with a game available nationally exclusively on a streaming service won the Super Bowl for the first time ever?”

This past season, which featured the addition of another streaming-exclusive platform with Netflix joining the mix for a pair of Christmas Day games, has shown us that streaming will only expand in the years to come.
However, NBC shoving their streaming platform down the throats of football fans in light of the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory clearly isn’t the best look in the eyes of most media pundits.
