Unless Warner Bros. Discovery is able to pull off a Hail Mary in its lawsuit against the NBA over the league’s new television deals, this is shaping up to be the final season of the NBA on TNT. But TNT isn’t sitting still ahead of their potential final season, adding Vince Carter to their ranks for the 2024-2025 season.
Carter retired from the NBA in 2020 after playing a record 22 seasons after being drafted by the Toronto Raptors in 1998.
Since Carter’s playing days came to an end, he’s bounced around the sports media making appearances for ESPN, YES Network, and TNT last season in select appearances. Now he has a permanent role with TNT as part of their Tuesday night NBA studio coverage.
TNT Sports today announced that Vince Carter – one of the most electrifying basketball players of all time and member of this year’s Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame class – will debut in a new and expanded role starting Thursday, Oct. 17, as a part of NBA on TNT’s preseason coverage.
Carter will serve as a regular studio analyst for NBA on TNT Tuesday, appearing alongside Shaquille O’Neal, Candace Parker and Adam Lefkoe. The NBA on TNT Tuesday franchise, a two-time Sports Emmy winner for outstanding interactive experience (original programming), returns starting in January.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to expand my role with the TNT Sports family,” said Carter. “Top notch people, top notch productions, top notch coverage of the NBA…I appreciate the Tuesday night crew, Shaq, Candace & Adam saving a seat for me, honored to be a part of it, we are going to have some fun this season.”
Carter appears to be a replacement for Jamal Crawford on the Tuesday night studio show, who Awful Announcing reported last month was leaving the network for other opportunities in the basketball media world. Crawford also called games for TNT, including a featured role alongside Kevin Harlan and Reggie Miller for the network’s conference finals coverage that was well received. So it wouldn’t be a surprise to also see Vince Carter make some more appearances in the broadcast booth this season as the NBA on TNT winds down its coverage of the Association.
