NBA media might not have high expectations for the Golden State Warriors this season, but don’t tell that to Steph Curry.

The Warriors held their Media Day earlier this week, where head coach Steve Kerr said he doesn’t mind the low expectations for his team as they approach the 2026-27 NBA season. And with Kerr welcoming the skeptics, Curry was similarly asked about no one believing the Warriors will make the playoffs this season during his Media Day session, and it quickly went off the rails.

“That’s how bad it is?” Curry asked, seemingly stunned to learn people were picking the Warriors to fall short of the playoffs. “To make the playoffs? I went from championship to championship… Damn! Damnnn!”

And with that, Curry abruptly ended his Media Day press conference, exiting the stage with a smirk before confirming his disdain was directed at the situation, not the reporter.

“Woo!” Curry could be heard yelling as he left the room. “Playoffs!”

The exchange was good-natured. And you can certainly respect a four-time NBA champion like Curry holding himself and his team to a higher standard. But they were 37-45 last season and didn’t make any significant roster upgrades. It’s hard for anyone outside of the organization to think too highly of the Warriors heading into this season.

Golden State got bounced in the second round of the playoffs the season prior, with Curry playing just one game in their series loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. But injuries have been the Warriors’ biggest problem for years. Unfortunately, Curry, Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green, and Kristaps Porziņģis aren’t getting any younger. And Curry aside, more people would probably be surprised to see the Warriors make the playoffs than to see them miss the playoffs.
