Pelicans announcers Joel Meyers Antonio Daniels Screengrab via YouTube

The New Orleans Pelicans and Los Angeles Clippers played out a tight, dramatic finish on Monday night and it was almost too much for one fan who just happened to be stationed right behind Pelicans announcers Joel Meyers and Antonio Daniels.

Things boiled over in the last minute when a foul was called on Dejounte Murray as he tried to take the ball away from James Harden with the score tied at 112 in the closing seconds. While the Pelicans challenged the call, a very passionate and possibly overzealous fan could be heard screaming through the microphones of Daniels and Meyers courtside.

It got so loud as the broadcast was going through the replays that Daniels even commented on it, “Oh my gosh, if they don’t get out of my ear, screaming in my ear…”

As crazy as it sounds, at least you have to give this Pelicans fan credit for being that locked in to the game when his team sits at 5-28 on the season, even to the point of driving his home team’s own announcers crazy while trying to do their jobs.

Daniels was *this close* to paying tribute to the late Bob Knight and telling the fan to sit down and be quiet live on the air, but somehow he was able to regather his thoughts and focus on the task at hand. Unfortunately for the Pelicans, they would go on to lose once again as the call was upheld and the Clippers held on for a 116-113 victory.

It probably didn’t help anyone that the last 45 seconds of the game took 17 minutes in real time. Close NBA games don’t exactly finish in efficient fashion, but that is an absurd length of time. And we are stuck on thinking that too many three pointers are the main problem with NBA games?
