Kevin Harlan is one of the most popular announcers in sports for many reasons. He gives some of the best calls in the business and always seems to love what he’s calling and relates with fans no matter if it’s football or basketball, television or radio. Fans love his energy and enthusiasm. But Harlan is at his absolute best when he can ad lib something weird happening. And Thursday night in Sacramento may have been the absolute weirdest.
During the final moments of a New Orleans Pelicans victory over the Sacramento Kings, somebody threw a chicken wing… yes, a chicken wing… onto the court. Play had to stop so that an arena worker could dispose of the wing and Harlan painted his Mona Lisa.

“It’s a chicken wing! Why would somebody throw something that good out on the floor! It’s crispy, it’s warm, and I almost had to, I’m so hungry,” Harlan said.
Broadcast partner Reggie Miller told Harlan that he could hear the play-by-play man’s stomach growling. This was at the end of a long night’s work after all.
“Who’s that guy, I hope he eats it! Gonna save it, put it in that little heater over there,” Harlan replied.
Put this call up next to Harlan calling idiots running onto the field, his Halo ad read, or a Super Bowl streaker as some of his best work.
The next NBA on TNT broadcast with Harlan and Miller definitely needs to begin with the pair enjoying a nice plate of chicken wings at the broadcast booth. One of the greats doesn’t deserve to be teased like this.
