Few professional athletes — if any — have become more synonymous with their social media behavior than Kevin Durant.
And as he prepares to begin the latest chapter of his career as a member of the Houston Rockets, the 36-year-old forward isn’t showing signs of slowing down anytime soon.
As has become common practice for him, Durant has been plenty active on X in recent days. And that included engaging with a Los Angeles Lakers fan who criticized a clip from the 2014 MVP’s recent appearance on the Mind the Game podcast, in which he seemingly took credit for helping prepare his former team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, for its current success.
After Durant told the user, “your mom hates that you haven’t succeeded at anything,” the fan clapped back by stating, “your mom hates that you still have no kids” before referring to Steph Curry as his dad. That reply went viral, with another user — @MrBuckBuck — chiming in to question why the former Texas star was engaging in such arguments.
Just as he did for the Lakers fan, Durant had something for MrBuckBuck too. And the 2-time NBA Finals MVP made it clear that it doesn’t matter to him what anybody thinks; he’ll be acting this way on social media as long as he’s alive.

At this point, we wouldn’t expect any less.
While Durant’s social media behavior initially served as a source of embarrassment after the discovery of his apparent burner accounts, the 15-time All-Star has since embraced his status as sports’ most online star. That included in during last summer’s Olympics, in which Durant remained plenty active on X while in Paris, where he went on to win a record fourth gold medal.
Considering the unique nature of his career, Durant’s on-court legacy has already proven difficult to define. But when it comes to his social media behavior, there’s no debating his status as one of the GOATs. And if his reply on Wednesday is any indication, he’s only just getting started.
