New York Knicks guard Josh Hart wasn’t born in the NYC area. But Hart, who in the midst of his third season in New York, has fully adopted the New York lifestyle, which included paying close attention to Game 1 of the World Series on Friday night.

New York residents are quite invested in the Yankees’ World Series matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers. And Hart appears to be no different.

After Friday’s victory for the Knicks over the Indiana Pacers where Hart scored 20 points, he spoke with Alan Hahn of MSG Networks to discuss the game.

However, the Yankees were fully in the midst of a close 2-1 game in the bottom of the eighth inning when Hahn approached Hart. So Hahn talked more with Hart about the ongoing Yankees game than anything the Knicks had done on the hardwood.

When Hahn attempted to ask Hart about his role on this year’s Knicks team, Hart ignored the question and asked everyone in the locker room whether a hit from Shohei Ohtani had gone out of the park.

“Oh, is it out,?” said Hart.

“Off the wall,” replied Hahn.

“Oh it’s off the wall, it’s off the wall. That’s okay, that’s okay,” added Hart. “Dang, he looks slow. That’s alright.”

As the throw came in from the outfield, Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres didn’t field the relay throw cleanly, resulting in Ohtani getting to third base on the play.

Hart, who mistook Torres for Anthony Volpe, was none too happy about the mistake.

“Oh, what are you doing?! Come on man! Come on Volp,” said Hart.

Hahn seemingly realized at that point that he wasn’t going to get much meaningful from Hart regarding the Knicks game.

“It’s definitely difficult to focus,” said Hahn. “I get it.”

Hart’s fandom of the Yankees actually isn’t a new thing. Some may not know that Hart actually has a personal connection to the organization. His great-uncle is the late Yankees catcher Elston Howard, who is one of the 37 members of the Yankee organization that have been honored in Monument Park.

With that in mind, it makes total sense as to why Hart was so tuned into Friday’s game. But unfortunately for Hart and all of the other Yankees fans, the Dodgers would come away with the Game 1 win after Freddie Freeman’s walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the tenth inning.

It’s at least a good thing Hahn didn’t try and interview Hart while Freddie Freeman was at the plate…
