Somehow, Jacob Tobey returned.
The San Antonio Spurs TV play-by-play announcer had reportedly been fired in July amid an alleged affair with the sister of a Spurs player.
However, Tobey took to social media on Friday to announce that he would be returning to call Spurs games this season after all.
I thank the Spurs for allowing me time to step away to sort out issues in my personal life. I understand that I will have to regain trust within the organization and across our community, a community where I will continue to be present with enthusiasm and passion. I believe I…

“I thank the Spurs for allowing me time to step away to sort out issues in my personal life,” Tobey wrote on X. “I understand that I will have to regain trust within the organization and across our community, a community where I will continue to be present with enthusiasm and passion. I believe I have the best job in the world and am thrilled to be able to continue as the team’s play-by-play announcer.”
Front Office Sports’ Ryan Glasspiegel, who initially reported that Tobey was “out as the Spurs’ lead play-by-play announcer,” said Friday that multiple sources had told FOS the announcer was gone, but “his exit has been undone, and he is returning to the team.”
The allegation of an affair between Tobey and a sister of a team player in early July came after an Instagram story on Tobey’s account posted: “This is my girlfriend of six years. But I cheated on her with Loren Waters. @lorenkwatrs So feel free to continue following me if you really think I’m a good guy because I’m not. :)”
The initial Instagram story was followed by a photo strip that appeared to show Tobey and Loren Waters, the sister of San Antonio Spurs player Lindy Waters III, together kissing.
Tobey will presumably reunite with Sean Elliott and the rest of the Spurs broadcasting team on DAZN, which was announced earlier this week as the new provider of all Spurs games not exclusive to national television. The Spurs TV broadcasting crew finished 15th in Awful Announcing’s 2025-2026 local NBA broadcaster rankings.
