Detroit Pistons announcer Greg Kelser is not a fan of Grayson Allen’s style of play. During Saturday’s game between the Pistons and Allen’s Phoenix Suns, Kelser made that known.

In the third quarter, Allen was dribbling the ball and being guarded by Detroit’s Marcus Sasser. Shortly after Allen crossed midcourt, Sasser fell to the ground, stopping the game. The replay showed what happened. As Allen was dribbling the ball with his left hand, his right elbow hit Sasser in the face.

“And of course, Grayson Allen, right there,” Kelser said upon seeing the play.

“That could have been an intentional elbow,” play-by-play man George Blaha added.

“Listen. He is involved in just far too many of these situations,” Kelser said. “I mean, even going back to his Duke days. Here in the NBA. Remember, he was involved when Caruso got his wrist broken, Allen was in the play.”

The play Kelser referenced came in 2022 when Alex Caruso, then playing for the Chicago Bulls was injured as a result of a Flagrant 2 called against Allen.

Blaha felt another Flagrant 2 was possible, saying “We could see Grayson Allen hit the locker room after this one” after it was announced that the elbow on Sasser would be reviewed.

That did not happen, though Allen was ultimately charged with a Flagrant 1. During the review, Kelser continued his commentary on Allen.

“You know, I’m gonna just say it like it is,” Kelser said. “He’s fortunate he’s playing in this era with these type of shenanigans. It just happens far too often for you to feel like it was unintentional.”

“You’re saying guys would have decided, ‘Hey, it’s time for me to take something out on him in return?’,” Blaha asked.

“Absolutely,” Kelser replied. “That’s exactly what I’m saying.”

Shortly before the results of the review were announced, Kelser got one more point in on Allen.

“You know, they talk about the Warriors’ Draymond Green and his past histories,” Kelser said, as the cameras focused on Allen. “He’s proven a resume of that, too.”
