The Golden State Warriors won four NBA championships between 2015 and 2022. During the first half of the 2024-2025 season, they haven’t resembled any of those title-winning teams despite still having Steph Curry and Draymond Green.
The Warriors pulled off a shocking trade last week, acquiring Jimmy Butler as part of a five-team deal. While they entered All-Star Weekend with a 28-27 record and were sitting in 10th place in the Western Conference, the arrival of the former Miami Heat star has reinvigorated the franchise and given them some newfound optimism about competing for a playoff spot.
Green, however, is thinking much bigger than that.
The Warriors forward spent All-Star Weekend as an NBA analyst for TNT. Green certainly shared his unvarnished thoughts about the event, calling out LeBron James for his late scratch, trashing the Rising Stars team, and generally dunking on the new All-Star Game format.
When discussing the NBA team he plays for, Green was effusive in his excitement for what Butler’s arrival means.

“He’s brought back that belief, and I think we’re gonna win the championship,” Green told his fellow TNT broadcasters.
After being pressed to say it again, Green was even more definitive.
“I’m sorry, I said I think we’re gonna win the championship, but I lied; we are going to win the championship,” said Green with a wry smile.
News of Green’s proclamation reached All-Star MVP Steph Curry, who noted it during his post-game comments later Sunday.

“I got Draymond on the telecast guaranteeing we’re winning a championship,” said Curry with a chuckle. “I love expectations and having something to play for, so he’s lighting a fire for sure.”
As many noted in the comments of that X post, that chuckle was Steph realizing he’ll have to be the one to cash the check that Draymond just wrote on national television.
