One of the first big athlete-hosted podcasts is getting a shakeup ahead of the NBA season. Retired NBA All-Star Baron Davis will join The Draymond Green Show as a full-time cohost this season alongside the dynamic Golden State Warriors forward.
Kyle Koster of Sports Illustrated broke the news ahead of NBA tipoff, while the DG Show Instagram account confirmed it.
“Baron and I have had some really great discussions on The Draymond Green Show, and partnering together on a consistent basis made sense,” Green told SI. “We’re excited to bring those same kinds of honest conversations to the show, and I think fans will really enjoy hearing our takes.”
Green launched The Draymond Green Show in 2021 at The Volume. The show quickly made headlines as a result of Green’s candid perspective on the Warriors’ dynasty. Green took listeners through the team’s 2022 championship, his preseason altercation with guard Jordan Poole later that year, and his suspension in 2023.
Green also has hosted newsy interviews with Steph Curry, Stephen A. Smith and Charles Barkley over the years.
Now, he adds Davis in what will likely bring a shakeup to the show. Since retirement, Davis has largely dabbled in Hollywood and investments while also working on and off for TNT Sports as an NBA analyst. Davis briefly hosted the Point God podcast for iHeartMedia.
“Green has a talent for engaging audiences with his raw honesty, and adding Davis to the mix is a perfect match,” said Colin Cowherd, founder of The Volume, to SI. “We’re looking forward to supporting them as they take this new journey together.”
The voice of a retired athlete from a different generation with a wider breadth of experiences could help The Draymond Green Show round itself out. More to the point, a full-time cohost should be huge for Green. If there has been any criticism of Green’s podcast — and many in the space — it is that there is nobody to offer a counterpoint or push the athlete on their POV.
This is the second time in recent weeks that Green has announced podcast news. Earlier in October, Green launched Why Is Draymond Green Talking About Football? with NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
It’s too early to know if Davis will bring more balance out of Green, but it certainly beats the episodes in which Green was just monologuing about the latest Warriors games and news.
