The Minnesota Timberwolves have been one of the NBA’s most significant and brightest surprises this year. Led by Anthony Edwards, the T’Wolves defeated the reigning champion Denver Nuggets in a memorable seven-game series. Minnesota is now four wins away from the NBA Finals with the win. They’ve only gotten this close once before, back in 2004, but fell short to the Los Angeles Lakers. So, it’s quite the time to be the T’Wolves, and Colin Cowherd has taken notice.
Well… so he thinks.
Sunday’s win for the Timberwolves assured them of a matchup with the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals. Ahead of that series, Cowherd dissected the Timberwolves and all the players he believes are still the best in the playoffs.
Cowherd got to Towns, and when he did, the longtime sportscaster incorrectly touted his ability to get triple-doubles this postseason. Cowherd named him the seventh-best player left in the 2024 NBA Playoffs.
Colin Cowherd claims Karl-Anthony Towns is one of five players to record a triple double in this year’s NBA playoffs
Only problem is KAT hasn’t recorded more than 5 assists all postseason 😬 pic.twitter.com/Ycfk5mGHHS

“Karl-Anthony Towns, a bit inconsistent. Actually a really nice three-ball for a guy that’s seven feet. He’s often a physical size mismatch because they’ve got two bigs. You can always tell if someone’s talented based on the market, and he’s got a market,” Cowherd said. “I can see the Knicks making a run at him; I can see several teams making a run at him.
“Karl-Anthony Towns, one of five players to record a triple-double in this year’s playoffs.”
A quick look at his postseason game log shows that Towns hasn’t recorded more than five assists during this year’s Playoffs. In fact, in 27 career playoff games, his career-high in assists is five, which he recorded last week during Game 6 against the Nuggets.
It’s not the first time Cowherd’s missed the mark. Will it be the last? Well, time will tell.
