Brian Scalabrine NBC Sports Boston NBA Screen grab: NBC Sports Boston

Over the past few months, former Boston Celtics turned media personalities Kendrick Perkins and Brian Scalabrine have gone back and forth over whether or not Perkins is received “with open arms” within the Celtics organization.

After several comments from Perkins on social media recently, Scalabrine cleared the air on his relationship with Big Perk during an appearance on The WEEI Afternoon Show.

Earlier this week, the ESPN NBA analyst addressed Scalebrine, who currently works as an analyst for NBC Sports Boston, suggesting Perkins wasn’t welcome around the team, particularly for their opening night ring ceremony at the start of the season.

“Scal, who the f*ck are you,” Perkins asked on the All the Smoke Podcast. “You’s the same motherf*cker that when we won a championship, was in street clothes, hurry up and went changed into your jersey so once we started taking pictures, you could know that you was a part of the team. And I actually like Scal, but I thought there should have been a phone conversation, right?”

This comes after Perkins has said in recent months that Scalabrine’s claims are “completely false” and that he “never said he wanted to come” to celebrate the Celtics’ recent championship.

On Wednesday’s edition of The WEEI Afternoon Show, Scalabrine was played a clip of Perkins’ most recent comments towards him before saying he has no say in how he believes the Celtics organization views Perkins.

“I really do feel sorry for anybody that actually believes that during the midst of all the stuff that I do, with my wife (and) three kids, the Big3, Celtics broadcasts, flying around, that I had a meeting with the Celtic brass and I decided who was allowed on the float and not allowed on the float,” he said. “I feel really bad for anybody that actually believes that. Or if Kendrick Perkins is trying to recruit and say that somehow I am actually in control of that.”

Scalabrine went on to say that he reached out to Perkins to ask him to apologize for past comments about Celtics head coach Joe Mazzula, including calling him a “bird-brain.”

According to Scalabrine, he gave Perkins advice about his broadcasting career before he made it to ESPN, which makes this feud rather silly in his eyes.

“When I left Sirius and started at Radio.com, I told the guy to sign Kendrick Perkins up. The guy, he’s brilliant. And this is before he even started doing the ESPN stuff. I’m like, this guy is amazing and he works. I also gave him advice. I said ‘Hey Perk, you want to know how to make it in this business? Do early morning radio’. Early morning, most NBA guys won’t wake up to do it. You can really separate yourself out.

“By the way, on June 18th I have a text message from him, ‘I love you, brother man.’ This is beyond ridiculous. Once again, I’m not going down this road of going on Twitter and having this stuff. I’m a grown man. It’s amazing what this world has become and how Perkins thinks this is the best way to approach this.”

Scalabrine doesn’t have the same animosity towards Perkins that it seems that Perkins has towards him. It also doesn’t sound like this situation will be resolved anytime soon.
