It’s been another busy week in sports media. We’re here to recap the biggest news and events that took place and share some of our best work from the week that was. Without further adieu:
Longtime Kings play by play announcer Grant Napear went on a Twitter rant following Sacramento’s trade of DeMarcus Cousins. He claimed the Kings “just became a team again” and that his teammates “hated playing with him! That is a fact!”
Keeping with the Kings, KHTK radio host Damien Barling was suspended after calling the Kings front office “embarrassing.” His co-hosts canceled scheduled shows without him. The Kings claim to have nothing to do with his suspension.
Dustin Racioppi of NorthJersey.com confirmed WFAN’s interest in New Jersey governor Chris Christie as a potential replacement for Mike Francesa. Christie exits office in January, a month after Francesa’s contract ends.
According to Sports Business Daily’s John Ourand, FS1 canceled Fox Sports Live and won’t renew the contracts of hosts Jay Onrait and Dan O’Toole. The duo were hired in 2013 after spending their careers at TSN.
Our own Ben Koo reported FS1 isn’t bringing back Katie Nolan’s Garbage Time in its current format. The show will either be canceled outright or brought back in a new format. Fox Sports told Awful Announcing they’re still excited to work with Nolan and further develop her role at the network.
