How does Scottie Scheffler’s arrest outside of the PGA Championship on Friday morning connect with an MLS game on Saturday night? Announcer Joey Zanaboni answered that question.
FC Cincinnati defeated St. Louis City SC 3-1 on Saturday night. The game could have been more lopsided were it not for a great save from St. Louis goalkeeper, Roman Bürki. Zanaboni, calling the game for St. Louis, saw the opportunity to connect the save with one of the sports world’s biggest stories of the week — the No. 1 golfer in the world getting arrested on his way to the second round of a major.
And he took it.
First, the play. Cincinnati’s Luciano “Lucho” Acosta lobbed a pass into the penalty area where his teammate, Nick Hagglund, headed it forward to Gerardo Valenzuela, who attempted to kick it in. The execution of the play was essentially flawless. Still, Bürki managed to get his fingertips on the ball, keeping it out of the net.
That’s when Zanaboni took over.
“Bürki gets fingertips, back to a header from Hagglund,” an excited Zanaboni exclaimed. “Oh. Roman Bürki. Slapping cuffs on that thing like it’s Scottie Scheffler trying to make a tee time.”
