Listening to New York Yankees baseball on the radio in 2024 has been different, to say the least. Fans no longer hear the voice of the now former longtime radio announcer John Sterling. Earlier this season, Sterling decided to step down from play-by-play duties. And now, at least temporarily, Suzyn Waldman won’t be around this weekend.
Newsday’s veteran Yankees reporter Erik Boland broke some interesting news on Wednesday afternoon. Boland said that Waldman will take a “rare” weekend off her duties in the booth. There will be a slight reshuffle as the Yankees prepare to welcome the Chicago White Sox to town.
In Waldman’s place, WFAN radio host Keith McPherson will call the games on Friday and Saturday with Justin Shackil. Then, YES Network dugout reporter Meredith Marakovits will chip in and call the game with Shackil on Sunday.
Understand Suzyn Waldman is taking a rare series off this weekend, so WFAN is making the interesting choice of having Yankees super fan @Keith_McPherson work Friday and Saturday with Justin Shackil. On Sunday it will be @M_Marakovits working with Shackil

McPherson stepped up to acknowledge the temporary move to the booth.

Marakovits had not publicly commented on the move on X or her social media.
This move seems very convenient for the Yankees and WFAN. McPherson regularly hosts a radio show on the network, and Marakovits is a respected reporter who travels with the team regularly anyway.
