The thing about moms is…they see everything.
Such is the case for Tarik Skubal, who heard from his mom after he dropped an “F” bomb during an outing.
During ALDS Game 1 as the Cleveland Guardians hosted the Detroit Tigers, Skubal came off the mound with a lot of energy, and mouthed the phrase, “Shut the f— up!”
Rob Friedman, AKA Pitching Ninja, posted the video to X, and got a reply from Tarik’s mom Laura. She simply said, “Tarik Daniel!”
Skubal was asked about it by the media on Friday before his start in the winner-take-all Game 5 Saturday afternoon.
“That’s interesting, that my mom went to Twitter,” he said. “You should hear my mom. She wants to make that comment, but I’ve seen her get ejected out of plenty of high-school basketball games. I guess it might run in the family.”

Skubal later addressed this on X as well:
Love you mom ❤️🤣

Skubal finished the 3-0 win in Game 1 striking out eight in seven innings. And the season proved to be good for him; he finished his 2024 campaign earning the AL Triple Crown after leading all AL pitchers with 18 wins, a 2.39 ERA and 228 strikeouts.
The numbers also make the case for the 27-year-old to get the AL Cy Young Award. But there’s always room for improvement, and his mom seems to have some suggestions there.
